ATTENTION — Important changes for workers from Asia and Africa planning to work in the EU in 2025

The European Union is introducing major updates to its migration rules. These changes will affect everyone who wants to come and work legally in Europe. If you are from Asia or Africa and thinking about moving abroad for a job — read this carefully, because it directly concerns you.

What’s new?

Single Permit — one document for work and residenceThis new system was approved in April 2024, and all EU countries must start using it by May 2026.The idea is simple: instead of two separate documents (one for residence and one for work), there will now be only one permit that combines both.Authorities must make a decision within 90 days, which means less waiting and bureaucracy.

Workers will also have more rights:

  • You can change your employer (under certain conditions).

  • You are allowed to stay in the country for a short period even if you lose your job.

  • You will have better protection against exploitation and unfair treatment.

Entry/Exit System (EES)Starting from October 12, 2025, all entries and exits of non-EU citizens will be tracked electronically. No more passport stamps — instead, your fingerprints and photo will be recorded at the border. This will make border control faster, but it also means every entry and exit will be visible in the system.

Stronger penalties for illegal stayThe updated Return Regulation brings much tougher rules. If someone stays illegally, the EU will now have clear deadlines for departure and may issue entry bans for up to 10 years. For example:

  • In Greece, fines can reach €10,000 and even include imprisonment.

  • In Germany, France, and Italy, the number of people being sent back (both voluntary and forced returns) is already increasing.

What this means for you

  • Only legal documents will be accepted — any violations will be quickly detected by the new system.

  • The Single Permit will soon become the main and easiest way to work officially in the EU.

  • Workers will have more protection, but also stricter rules to follow.

If you are planning to work in Europe, make sure you start preparing your documents early and apply through official programs. These changes are meant to make migration fairer and safer — but also much more controlled.
